Ghana Esports Federation Unveils New National Championship Structure

The Ghana Esports Federation (GESF) has announced a new, expert-developed framework for the National Esports Championship, designed to create a clearer competitive pathway for players and deeper engagement for the gaming community across the country.
The new structure, approved during the National Esports Directive Meeting, divides Ghana’s 16 regions into four competitive zones, streamlining how players will qualify and progress toward the national title. This regional breakdown was highly approved by the Regional Esports Directors, reflecting strong consensus across the country’s esports leadership.
A Three-Stage Path to the National Championship
Under the new framework, the road to the National Esports Championship will run through three distinct stages:

  • 1.Regional Championships: Players compete within their home regions to advance.
  • 2.Ghana Esports Premier League: Top regional performers move on to a premier league stage, raising the level of competition.
  • 3.National Championship: The finest competitors from the Premier League meet to determine Ghana’s National Esports champions.
This tiered approach is intended to give the community a clear, transparent view of how the championship will unfold, from grassroots regional play all the way to the national stage.
Player Mobility Between Regions
The Federation also recognizes that athletes may compete for a particular region during a given season but later move to a different region whether due to work, relocation, transfers, or other personal circumstances. Specific conditions governing such regional moves will be announced in due course. Regardless of any regional transfer, the Federation has affirmed that players will always remain eligible to take part in national pride competitions representing Ghana and International Representation.

As part of this overhaul, the Federation also emphasized the importance of establishing a proper structure and policy for selecting players and teams to represent Ghana at international competitions. This is expected to be a key focus area as the Federation works to strengthen the country’s standing in the global Esports community. The Federation says this restructuring reflects its broader commitment to the sustainable growth of esports in Ghana creating opportunities for talent in every region, raising the standard of competition, and positioning Ghanaian players for greater success on the international stage. Further details on regional zone groupings, qualification timelines, and the international representation policy will be communicated in subsequent announcements.
