GHANA ESPORTS FEDERATION TO HOST SEASON 2 OF PHYGITAL GHANA SUMMIT AHEAD OF PHYGITAL FOOTBALL RIVALS 2026/27

The Ghana Esports Federation GESF, is pleased to announce the second season of the Phygital Ghana Summit, scheduled for Saturday, 7th November 2026, at West Hills Mall, Accra, from 11:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The summit forms part of the federation’s ongoing commitment to educating, preparing, and developing Ghana’s growing Phygital Sportscommunity ahead of national and international competitions.

Phygital Sports is an emerging sporting discipline that combines digital gaming with physical sporting activities, creating a competitive environment where athletes must demonstrate both virtual gaming skills and real-world sporting abilities. Recognizing that Phygital Sports is still relatively new to many Ghanaian athletes and the wider public, the Ghana Esports Federation introduced the Phygital Ghana Summit as an educational and technical engagement platform to promote a better understanding of the sport.

The summit is organized in connection with Phygital competitions to ensure that participating teams, athletes, managers, and other stakeholders are adequately informed about the nature of the competitions and their responsibilities. This second season will focus particularly on the upcoming Phygital Football Rivals – 4th Edition, scheduled for Saturday, 14th November 2026, at Weija White Cross in the Greater Accra Region.

Eight registered teams are expected to participate in the competition, which combines the digital football game EA SPORTS FC 26 with physical five-a-side football.During the summit, participants will receive detailed education and practical demonstrations covering:

  1. Introduction to Phygital Sports and its international development.
  2. Understanding Phygital Rivals, Phygital Contenders, and the Games of the Future.
  3. Tournament structures, competition formats, and technical regulations.
  4. Digital and physical stages of Phygital Football.
  5. Match scoring systems, refereeing decisions, and disciplinary procedures.
  6. Anti-doping regulations, ethics, and athletes’ responsibilities.
  7. Player eligibility, registration verification, and team accreditation.
  8. International competition pathways and opportunities for Ghanaian athletes.

The summit will also provide an opportunity for participating teams to engage directly with tournament officials, seek clarification on technical matters, and complete the necessary administrative requirements ahead of the competition. The Ghana Esports Federation believes that successful sporting competitions require more than athletic talent. Proper education, technical understanding, discipline, and compliance with international sporting standards are equally important.

The Phygital Ghana Summit is therefore designed to minimize misunderstandings, prevent avoidable technical violations, and ensure that all participating teams enter competitions with a clear understanding of the rules.Speaking ahead of the summit, the President of the Ghana Esports Federation and Phygital Ghana, Igor Boumekpo, emphasized the importance of athlete education:

Phygital Sports is not simply about playing video games or participating in physical football. It is a combination of two sporting environments that require technical understanding, discipline, teamwork, and proper preparation. As a federation, we cannot introduce a new sporting discipline to our community and expect athletes to understand everything without proper education. That is why we organize the Phygital Ghana Summit whenever we prepare for major Phygital competitions. Our responsibility is not only to organize tournaments but also to educate athletes, develop their understanding of the sport, and prepare them to compete confidently at both national and international levels.

The upcoming Phygital Football Rivals 2026/27 will also serve as an important platform for identifying competitive talent capable of representing Ghana in future international Phygital competitions, subject to the applicable qualification and eligibility requirements. GESF remains committed to strengthening Ghana’s participation in the global Phygital Sports ecosystem through education, structured competitions, athlete development, and international cooperation.
