For many years, government involvement in Esports was viewed with doubt by many stakeholders within the gaming and Esports ecosystem. However, that perception began to change when the Ghana Esports Federation (GESF) received official recognition from the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. This recognition has renewed hope within the esports community that the Government of Ghana is paying close attention to the growth and development of electronic sports.
As part of this growing engagement, the Ghana Esports Federation organized the first official esports demonstration during the 13th African Games at the University of Ghana, marking a historic milestone for esports in the country. The successful demonstration strengthened the Federation’s commitment to increasing government participation in esports activities.
Building on that momentum, GESF organized the first Civil Service Esports EA FC 25 Tournament, which brought together ministries, government agencies, and public institutions to compete in an official Esports competition. The initiative was designed to introduce Esports to the public sector and encourage digital sports participation among government workers.
The second edition of the Civil Service Esports Week Tournament was held yesterday at the Accra Sports Stadium, further deepening the relationship between government institutions and the esports sector. The tournament was proudly sponsored by Arena 233, which continues to play a major role in promoting esports in Ghana and supporting the activities of the Ghana Esports Federation.The inaugural edition of the tournament was won by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, 
led by Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament and Minister. The Minister commended the Federation for its efforts and noted that. Esports activities should not be underestimated. I commend the Ghana Esports Federation for its continued commitment to developing esports in Ghana. In the second edition, Ministry of Ministry Of Labour Jobs and Employment emerged as champions after defeating the State Protocol Department 6-4 in the Grand final.
President of the Ghana Esports Federation, Igor Boumekpo, expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, participating ministries, agencies, and institutions for embracing Esports and contributing to the success of the event. He also emphasized that Arena 233, as the official sponsor of the 2026 Civil Esports tournament, deserves formal recognition from the Federation for its outstanding support and dedication to Esports development in Ghana.
In a light-hearted reflection on the competition, the GESF President humorously remarked that “the Ministry of Defense could not defend its title, the Ministry of Education has been educated, and the Ministry of Sports was another disappointment.” He stressed that the comments were made in good spirit and reflected the friendly and competitive atmosphere of the tournament.
